FYI . . . as I was working on our "Advice for your daughter or son" series, I caught this news segment on this problem that is growing for kids & teens. I want to gather more info to share but until then, this is a start.
Know this – there are things that your kids, your teens and even you will not know. But one way or another, things unfold and yes, lessons are learned. And yes, some are learned in a most difficult way.

First, I did not originally plan to share on this here and now . . . but if we are thinking about what to share, teach, guide your teen (daughter or son), you may need to back up a few years and to start talking with your kids on this: Online Child Extortion. And yes, even I wondered . . . 'what the heck is all of that?' Now, I am not an expert on this but I am trying to help spread awareness to: imagery, grooming, live stream abuse, sextortion, and manipulation. As to what this all is. These are all growing problems that kids and teens are getting caught up in and for the most part, it is because of their access to the various social media platforms. Sadly, for the most part, we parents don't think this will ever be a problem for our family so little is said or done to raise awareness and to fight it. |
All I know is that if it can happen to some, it can happen to anyone (and that includes your family). The sad reality is that this is an issue. Learn about it and help your kids, your teens to learn and to avoid it. P.S. After creating the above, I came across this last image aka the rest of the story. It gave me a chuckle and just reminded me that our talks with our kids & teens may be tough, but are so needed. They can be fun and they can also be so critical to do (the tough topics are not easy but still needed). So, talk, teach, discuss and be a role-model as best you can, because you not only will have an impact on your kids, it will also have a ripple-effect on theirs as well. |
