This week our Taking A Look At series asks, Am I Growing? It is easy to see in our youth because our height and weight is increasing. The knowledge though is the harder one to see if it is increasing. | So, if you don't know just keep growing. And remember 1 Cor. 13:11 "When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me." |
And as we move forward, it is also good to look back - like we did a few years ago. Remember the 'Armor of God'. “Be strong in the Lord. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying.” (Ephesians 6:10-18)

Our Taking A Look At series asks, Am I Appreciating? With yesterday (Thanksgiving 2018) now behind us, there is a good chance that all of us took the time to be thankful for what they have and who they have in our lives. But that was yesterday And don't forget Psalm 118:29
"This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." Our Taking A Look At series asks, Am I Learning?
Yes our 'learning' days are usually focused on the first 20 or so years of our life and those are often in pursuit of the 'who we want to become' pursuits. But it is the periodically after that which - if we choose to pursue - that mostly impact the 'what are we wanting to achieve' actions.
The reason, Veterans Day. A time we can say thank you and to appreciate what all Veterans have done for us - ensured our freedoms. But then what? The good is that with our freedoms, we can choose things like these . . . The bad with our freedoms, some will take the path of harm and hate.
So reference the previous week's blogs if needed. Then decide what do you need, what do you want and what will you give? Your legacy will then show it. Isaiah 1:17 reminds us . . . "Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the ruthless, Defend the orphan, Care for the widow."
Second, would/could you for someone you don't know? Third, if you don't know how you would answer those first two questions, ask yourself what would you sacrifice for what? So, please ponder sacrifice . . . because there will be various sacrifices needed by us each in the times ahead. The small ones are easy - it is the big sacrifices that will test the foundation of our character. And remember, Romans 6:13 "Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness." |
