The words 'Have you ever . . . ' can lead you to many great questions. One of them . . . 'Have you ever had your child die?' . . . is a hard one to answer when the answer is yes. There are two people I'd like you to think about this weekend. The first is Amanda (Twellman) Dieppa who died from cancer at the age of 23 and the second is her dad Tom. But why? First, none of us know how many days we will have on this earth. Second, whether it be many or fewer, we can make an impact. And third, if we want to make an impact, we must move from thought to action. |
I share the above because there is a great little book titled Amanda's Poems. that her dad (Tom) has created for anyone who would like to get a powerful insight to the life of a young women (Amanda) who dealt with cancer over the last 7 years of her life. Through her poems, you get an insightful and inspiring look at how one can grasp the horror of having cancer, yet embraces the honor of having a growing faith.
To me, although she probably didn't think she was . . . Amanda in wanting to share her thoughts, fears, hopes and faith through her poems, became a hero. She blazed a trail for others to follow and her family helped her by making her poems available. If you would like to have Amanda's Poems (available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Hebrew), you can do so via www.amandaspoems.com or by contacting Tom Twellman at 949.923.1047 (thank you Tom for doing this for your daughter).
And FYI (from their website) . . . Amanda’s poem book is free to anyone who wants one. Donations are truly appreciated, but not required. If you wish to donate, please know that 100% of all money collected will be used to print and ship more poem books to others in need.
