One of the biggest challenges that we Dads have, is to have the patience that our kids want us to have. Whaaaaat??? You are thinking. I mean this is a perspective challenge. As Dads, our view of time, of understanding, of growth [as we look at our kids] is that 'they should be learning XYZ faster' And the reality is this. Kids are like popcorn kernels in the microwave bag – some pop first, then the others get going and yes, some are the last ones to pop. And you know what? That is all okay and that is the mindset that we need to have with our kids. |
I know that I'm not perfect, you're not and our kid(s) are not either. The key is to do whatever it takes to help them to learn to be a great adult . . . to think, to learn, to stand up for themselves and for others, to be compassionate, to be respectful and to be honorable in all that they pursue. For those are the 'all that matters'. Oops, I almost forgot. If you have goofed up on this with your kid(s), it is never too late to tell them you are sorry and for you to be more patient going for. That is what ADDO is all about. And don't forget . . . Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly. Proverbs 14:29 |
