If you want to have at least a better insight as to what that may have been like - I recommend you watch the movie Saving Private Ryan (I'll never forget my wife clutching my arm as she struggled to watch that part of the movie when all those men were trying to fight their way to shore and safety. Or, do we just think of that as a significant point in history, sad losses but needed for the ultimate victory that would later come?
