Greetings men, if you are reading this after reading last week's "How to be a better Dad", then you are right where thousands of other men are at this day. That being: How am I doing? Why am I not further along than I thought I would be by this time? Is this all there is? (and there are so many other questions that we may have as the ups and downs of life unfold). So where do you go from here - if things are not on track as you would like? | ALL MEN ARE GREAT IN THEIR DREAMS, REALITY JUST NARROWS THE COMPETITION |
Help, I need somebody, Help, not just anybody, Help, you know I need someone, help. When I was younger, so much younger than today, I never needed anybody's help in any way. But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured, Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors. Help me if you can, I'm feeling down And I do appreciate you being round. Help me, get my feet back on the ground, Won't you please, please help me. And now my life has changed in oh so many ways, My independence seems to vanish in the haze. But every now and then I feel so insecure, I know that I just need you like I've never done before. Help me if you can, I'm feeling down And I do appreciate you being round. Help me, get my feet back on the ground, Won't you please, please help me. When I was younger, so much younger than today, I never needed anybody's help in any way. But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured, Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors. Help me if you can, I'm feeling down And I do appreciate you being round. Help me, get my feet back on the ground, Won't you please, please help me, help me, help me, oh. | Know this, needing help is not something new. As you can see by the words to the left, the Beatles charted this popular song back when I was a kid. At the time, I thought this was just a song that was fun to listen to but as I grew up, took on my career and had a family, I saw others having some big struggles. How best to help ourselves or to help others is a good question. As I pondered this, I thought these words from Andy Andrews (one of my favorite authors); the actions and questions shared are a good starting point. 1st. Identify what you want. Ask, what do I want to happen over the next year of my life? Spiritually? Mentally? Physically? Financially? Emotionally? 2nd. Identify why you want it. Ask, why is this important to me? What will doing, becoming, or accomplishing this mean to me? 3rd. Identify how you will get it. Ask, what are the five or six actions I will take in order to accomplish this goal? 4th. Identify when you will take the action to get it. Ask, when exactly will I take these actions? 5th. Observe your progress. Ask, is what I’m doing right now working? Why or why not? What new actions could I take to get me closer to my goal? |
Now considering the above and asking the questions shown is at least a way to get thinking about how best to get back on track. Why? I thought these words that Andy wrote: “The past will never change, but you can change the future by changing your actions today. We as humans are always in a process of change. Therefore we might as well guide the direction in which we will change” (from “The Traveler’s Gift”) Thank you for considering the above as you move forward. |
