First, I thought that our different ages is a variable that greatly impacts how we look at life, what we view as issues or priorities or whatever. For example, see the words to the right, a song by Bucky Covington. It is titled "A Different World". Now I assume the younger men among us may not appreciate or chuckle from the words like I did. I know when I heard the song, I thought... wow, does that really hit home for me. I share it now as a reminder to us all, that we are a product of the era that we grew up in, of the effectiveness of our parents and of our willingness to learn. And I'm pretty sure there are some of you like me thinking - wow, I have learned a lot but I sure wish I would have known or learned a lot of things earlier in life. Which brings me to the visual and words below (more on why, below). | We were born to mothers who smoked and drank Our cribs were covered in lead based paint No child proof lids no seat belts in cars Rode bikes with no helmets and still here we are, still here we are We got daddy's belt when we misbehaved Had three TV channels you got up to change No video games and no satellite All we had were friends and they were outside, playin' outside It was a different life. when we were boys and girls Not just a different time, it was a different world School always started the same every day The pledge of allegiance then someone would pray Not every kid made the team when they tried We got disappointed and that was all right, we turned out all right It was a different life. when we were boys and girls Not just a different time, it was a different world No bottled water, we drank from a garden hose And every Sunday, all the stores were closed It was a different life. when we were boys and girls Not just a different time, it was a different world. It was a different world |
Thank you for taking the time to read this week's words. As you can see by our blogs over the last few weeks, there are various things that we men should ponder and then decide on what to pursue, the when and how, etc. Our words this week are another consideration. The challenge is our various perspectives. As I pondered the above, I find myself thinking... it doesn't matter how we were raised or the decisions we've made over the years; some have had it harder, others easier and despite it all - we all learn from our experiences. We now get to decide: What do I want to do next with my life and for those I love. . . (are there aspects of joy that I need to consider and pursue)? What say you?
