First, it was September 11th, 2001 and for Steven Salzano of Ladder Co. 132, located in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn, New York - it started out as an ordinary day (most of us would say the same). It was his day off and he was installing a hot water tank in his basement. His wife than broke the news to him that she just saw on the news that a passenger plane had crashed into the World Trade center building. Salzano immediately phoned into his firehouse and he was told they did not need his assistance, but once the second plane hit, he immediately packed his stuff and reported to work.
And second, these words from the song "Now is the time". Although some may say this would be the easier of the two examples to take the initiative on - but for some, it may be most difficult.
Come, now is the time to worship. Come, now is the time to give your heart. Come, just as you are, to worship. Come, just as you are, before your God. Come. One day every tongue will confess You are God. One day every knee will bow. Still the greatest treasure remains for those Who gladly choose you now. Come, now is the time to worship. Come, now is the time to give your heart. Oh, come. Just as you are to worship. Come just as you are before your God. Come. | Which brings us back to you. How would you describe what "Taking Initiative" means? As I thought about this and when our men's group heard and discussed the aspects of rejecting passivity and doing what is needed, when needed. . . is a good place to start. While you ponder this, know that "men are meant to be initiators; they should set things in motion for the purpose of protecting, serving and providing". And while some men wait for life to happen, God uses REAL men to happen to life. So where does that leave us? I hope you would join us in at least considering a review on how we view taking the initiative when needed. |
