These last three stages (the M, M & P) of manhood can only be achieved in the order shown and via a life that starts as Robert Lewis shared. . . one who Rejects passivity, Expects a greater reward, Accepts responsibility and Leads courageously. To do so, REAL men need to consider the following and our achievements in pursuit of them.
Second is the next stage and that can only be effectively pursued from the successful base of manhood. Why? Because once a man is established and he demonstrates the characteristics that real men have, then he had life experience that he can share and help other men with. As iron sharpens iron, men who Mentor help other men to grow (to help us to see the blind spots in our life), who then in turn can even become mentors as well (and remember, the best mentoring relationships have a great balance of give and take, where both are offering insights for each other).
So there you go, the five steps are for you to determine which step are you within and how well are you doing on this five step journey? If you are too focused on 'what you have' (possessions, toys, etc) or on 'what you have accomplished' (how high a level at work or what you've done in your community), you may have overlooked a very critical question - that being 'what have I become?' It all boils down to having the right big picture for your life - what type of man do I want to be, what do I want to do for my family and friends, and what goals do I have?
